I’m Sonora

Hello!

Sonora Roman-van der Walt, M.S., LAMFT-10912

Practicing under clinical supervision

I am a licensed associate marriage and family therapist and the owner of Covey Counseling Center. I’m married to my wonderful husband and a parent to both human and fur children.

I studied at Fuller Theological Seminary and wrote my graduate thesis on hoarding and attachment. During that process, I watched a lot of episodes of the TV show, “Hoarders”. I noticed a pattern. After the credits rolled, I saw updates describing increased relational strain, refusal of aftercare therapy, and filling homes up with stuff again. I knew that there had to be a better way.

I created Covey because I believe that people who struggle with hoarding deserve quality care. Too often, those who hoard end up isolated and struggling to make progress. I want to make that process a little less lonely.

Humans have stuff.

Owning things doesn’t make you a hoarder. It makes you human. I’m not a minimalist who wants you to live with as little as possible. I am sentimental and love to collect books, vinyl records, and trinkets. I have many hobbies and own supplies for each of them. Everything I own represents something about me, and I bet that’s true about you too.

Deciding what to keep and what to let go is an emotional process that deserves support. So much of what we own holds memories and reminders of those we love and the people we used to be.

I believe you can build a new relationship with your belongings, at your own pace. As we make room, the things you love can shine, and your home can become a place of rest and connection again.

I would love to meet you!
